Women arrested after football game incident
A fight between two women at a Gene Raffield youth football game on Saturday led to the arrest of two Wewahitchka women by officers of the Port St. Joe Police Department.
According to Chief Jake Richards, a domestic situation arose between Alison “Hali” Price, 36, and an ex-husband, and that after words were exchanged, Mary Book, 40, later got involved and was charged with battery.
Price was asked to leave for reportedly yelling racial slurs and profanities, Richards said. An officer said she failed to follow lawful orders and was arrested for resisting arrest without violence.
“This happened in front of fans and children,” said Richards. “Every day, the morals and ideals of youth football extend well beyond the boundaries of sports. Youth sports is a program of service to youth. It is geared to provide an outlet of healthful activity and training under good leadership in the atmosphere of wholesome community participation.
“The movement is dedicated to helping children become good and decent citizens. It inspires them with a goal and enriches their lives toward the day when they must take their places in the world. It established the values of teamwork, sportsmanship and fair play,” he said. “After this despicable situation, these words have never been more relevant than they are right now.”
