PSJ downs FCHS as season gets underway

In a hard fought volleyball game Sept. 5 on their home court, an older, and generally taller, Port St. Joe Lady Tiger Shark volleyball team defeated a scrappy, and younger, Franklin County Lady Seahawk squad in three straight.

St. Joe, under the coaching of Derek Garland, won 25-20, 25-19 and 28-26 over Franklin, coached by Tara Klink.

Earlier in the day, the St. Joe junior varsity team won in two straight, 25-8 and 25-18, while the Franklin middle school teams both won in two straight, with the A team winning 25-23 and 25-14, and the B team winning 15-13 and 15-8.



On Sept. 10 at home, the Lady Tiger Sharks lost in three straight to the Rickards Raiders, falling 23-21, 25-13 and 25-20.

On Sept. 3 in Panama City, St. Joe fell in three straight to the Bay Lady Tornadoes, falling 25-16, 25-15 and 25-11.

On Aug. 29 at home, St. Joe fell in three straight to the Liberty County Lady Bulldogs, 25-12, 25-9 and 25-12.

On Aug. 27 at home, St. Joe downed the Vernon Lady Yellowjackets in three straight, 25-11, 25-17 and 25-21.

In an away match Aug. 22, St. Joe lost in three straight to the Rickards Lady Raiders, falling 25-13, 25-15 and 25-16.

In Panama City Aug. 29, the Lady Tiger Sharks won in three straight over the Rutherford Lady Rams, 25-22, 25-20 and 25-20.

At Wewa on Aug. 13, St. Joe lost in four games to the Lady Gators, falling in the first two 25-16 and 25-17, winning the third 27-25 and then losing the fourth 25-15.

Franklin County lost its opener against Wewa Aug. 19, also in four, as they fell 25-19, came back to win the second 25-23, and then fell 26-24 and 25-22. The JV team lost in three, winning the opener 26-24 and then falling 25-19 and 15-12.

The Middle School A team also fell in three, winning 25-23 before falling 26-24 and 21. 19. The B team was victorious, losing the first 15-12 but coming back to triumph 16-14 and 15-10.

The Lady Seahawks lost Aug. 20 at home in four games to Rickards, falling 25-7 and 25-14, before winning the third 25-23 and falling in the fourth 25-14. The JV team lost in two straight, 26-24 and 30-28.

On Aug. 27 at home, the Lady Seahawks won in three straight over Gadsden County, winning 25-6, 25-11 and 25-18. They did the same at Jefferson County Aug. 29, winning 25-16, 25-11 and 25-16. The JV team won in two straight, 25-14 and 25-10.

On Sept. 3 at home, the Lady Seahawks fell in four to Rutherford, losing 25-20 and 25-19, and then winning 25-17 before falling 25-21.

On Sept. 9 at home, the Lady Seahawks defeated Wewa in four games, losing 25-19, and then coming back to win 25-20, 26-24 and 25-23.

On Sept. 10 in Tallahassee against the Community Christian Lady Chargers, the Lady Seahawks lost in three straight, 25-18, 30-28 and 26-24.

Meet the Editor

David Adlerstein, The Apalachicola Times’ digital editor, started with the news outlet in January 2002 as a reporter.

Prior to then, David Adlerstein began as a newspaperman with a small Boston weekly, after graduating magna cum laude from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. He later edited the weekly Bellville Times, and as business reporter for the daily Marion Star, both not far from his hometown of Columbus, Ohio.

In 1995, he moved to South Florida, and worked as a business reporter and editor of Medical Business newspaper. In Jan. 2002, he began with the Apalachicola Times, first as reporter and later as editor, and in Oct. 2020, also began editing the Port St. Joe Star.
