Local cheerleaders to perform at Walt Disney World
Kingsley Hopper, Javana Pearson, Ava Petersen, Hannah Petersen, and Leila Smith from Port St. Joe High School are among more than 800 high school cheerleaders and dancers from across the country selected to represent the camp brands of Varsity Spirit in the Varsity Spirit Spectacular at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, from Nov. 22 to 25.
The individuals invited to perform are part of a select group of captains, co-captains, officers and seniors who attended a Varsity Spirit summer camp this summer hosted by Universal Cheerleaders Association, Universal Dance Association, National Cheerleaders Association, National Dance Alliance,United Spirit Association and Urban Cheerleading Experience.
The five varsity cheerleaders will perform in an exclusive performance at Disney’s Magic Kingdom Park before hundreds of fans. Besides enjoying a trip to Orlando, performers will have the opportunity to meet cheerleaders and dancers from across the nation and enjoy the holiday season at Walt Disney World Resort parks.
“The five girls are honored they were chosen at tryouts to represent Port St Joe High School at this amazing event,” said coach Stephanie Petersen.

David Adlerstein, The Apalachicola Times’ digital editor, started with the news outlet in January 2002 as a reporter.
Prior to then, David Adlerstein began as a newspaperman with a small Boston weekly, after graduating magna cum laude from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. He later edited the weekly Bellville Times, and as business reporter for the daily Marion Star, both not far from his hometown of Columbus, Ohio.
In 1995, he moved to South Florida, and worked as a business reporter and editor of Medical Business newspaper. In Jan. 2002, he began with the Apalachicola Times, first as reporter and later as editor, and in Oct. 2020, also began editing the Port St. Joe Star.
