Learn about ‘volunteer spirit’ at Aug. 13 event
The GFWC Wewahitchka Woman’s Club is delighted to announce the commencement of the new fiscal year with an engaging meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 13.
The event, at 314 North Second Street, Wewahitchka. will begin with a social gathering at 5:30 p.m. CT, followed by a business meeting at 6 p.m.
Terri Norris, president of GFWC Wewahitchka Woman’s Club, warmly invites everyone interested in experiencing “Living the Volunteer Spirit” and learning how it can significantly enrich their lives. This meeting presents a wonderful opportunity to understand the club’s mission and how you can become part of this inspiring journey.
The GFWC Wewahitchka Woman’s Club embodies this spirit of volunteerism, bringing together individuals with diverse talents, interests, and backgrounds. United by a commitment to community improvement through volunteer service, the club is an integral part of making Wewahitchka a better place to live. We are proud to support several community service programs that reflect the diverse interests of its members. These include:
- Arts and Culture: Promoting and supporting the arts within the community through various initiatives and events.
- Civic Engagement and Outreach: Encouraging active participation in civic duties and reaching out to support community needs.
- Education and Libraries: Supporting educational initiatives and enhancing library resources to foster a love for learning.
- Environment: Engaging in projects that promote environmental sustainability and awareness.
- Health and Wellness: Initiatives aimed at promoting healthy living and well-being within the community.
The club has a series of exciting projects lined up, aimed at fostering community engagement and support:
- On Thursday, Aug. 1 at 6 p.m., the club will host a Meet the Candidates event at the Honeyville Community Center. This is an excellent opportunity for community members to engage with local candidates and discuss pertinent issues.
- On Saturday, Sept. 28, the club will participate in the GFWC National Day of Service with a mobile food drive to combat food insecurities in the community. This initiative underscores the club’s dedication to addressing urgent local needs and supporting those in need.

Meet the Editor
David Adlerstein, The Apalachicola Times’ digital editor, started with the news outlet in January 2002 as a reporter.
Prior to then, David Adlerstein began as a newspaperman with a small Boston weekly, after graduating magna cum laude from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. He later edited the weekly Bellville Times, and as business reporter for the daily Marion Star, both not far from his hometown of Columbus, Ohio.
In 1995, he moved to South Florida, and worked as a business reporter and editor of Medical Business newspaper. In Jan. 2002, he began with the Apalachicola Times, first as reporter and later as editor, and in Oct. 2020, also began editing the Port St. Joe Star.
