Wewa Darlings sweep district tourney
The Wewahitchka 8-and-under girls softball team went undefeated in winning the district championship two weeks ago at the Honeyville Sports Complex in Wewahitchka .
After a bye June 14, Wewa downed Liberty County and Port St. Joe June 15. The following day, Wewa defeated Sneads, who had ousted Blountstown from the losers bracket. On June 17, Wewa defeated Port St. Joe to win the championship.
Below is a picture of Jayonna Wiliams, in the center between teammates Amyah Sherfield and Elizabeth Rustin. She made history by becoming the first 8-year old to hit two home runs over the fence and out of the park.
Wewahitchka, coached by head coach Travis Burge and assistants Jarvis Sherfield, Cody Johnson and Stephanie Brinkmeier, now heads to the state tournament beginning Friday in Marianna.

David Adlerstein, The Apalachicola Times’ digital editor, started with the news outlet in January 2002 as a reporter.
Prior to then, David Adlerstein began as a newspaperman with a small Boston weekly, after graduating magna cum laude from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. He later edited the weekly Bellville Times, and as business reporter for the daily Marion Star, both not far from his hometown of Columbus, Ohio.
In 1995, he moved to South Florida, and worked as a business reporter and editor of Medical Business newspaper. In Jan. 2002, he began with the Apalachicola Times, first as reporter and later as editor, and in Oct. 2020, also began editing the Port St. Joe Star.
