Tiger Sharks to face Bozeman Saturday night in regional semis
PST downs Cottondale 7-4 in opener
The Port St. Joe Tiger Sharks will get a second crack at the state top-ranked Bozeman Bucks this Saturday evening as they travel to Panama City for the Class 1A regional semis.
Port St. Joe secured a 7-4 victory win over the Cottondale Hornets Tuesday evening in Jackson County in order to advance. The teams hadn’t met since 2017, when the Hornets won 7-6.
Bozeman defeated Chipley 3-0 Tuesday night to advance.
With two runs in the second and three in the third, the Tiger Sharks went up 5-0 before allowing the Hornets two runs in the bottom of the third. Port St. Joe got one run in both the third and sixth innings, to build a 7-2 lead, and then allowed Cottondale to score two in the bottom of the seventh to account for the final score.
Senior Fisher Vandertulip struck out six Cottondale batters and walked one over four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He also scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-4.
Senior Jentzen Odom pitched three innings, striking out three, walking five and giving up two earned runs on two hits.
Senior catcher CJ Conway went 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI, while sophomore Baylor Partie scored two runs and stole a base. Sophomore Eli Godwin scored two runs and stole two bases.
With their sixth straight win on the road. Port St. Joe upped their record to 20-6.

Prior to then, David Adlerstein began as a newspaperman with a small Boston weekly, after graduating magna cum laude from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. He later edited the weekly Bellville Times, and as business reporter for the daily Marion Star, both not far from his hometown of Columbus, Ohio.
In 1995, he moved to South Florida, and worked as a business reporter and editor of Medical Business newspaper. In Jan. 2002, he began with the Apalachicola Times, first as reporter and later as editor, and in Oct. 2020, also began editing the Port St. Joe Star.
