Art in Bloom opens Friday at The Joe
Come celebrate the season of spring with the grand opening of “Art in Bloom” Friday, April 19 from 6 to 8 p.m. EST at The Joe Center for the Arts, 201 Reid Ave, Port St Joe.
This exhibition consists of 67 works – paintings, drawings, photography, collage and printmaking – incorporating a floral theme. Local and regional artists, as well as those from across the country are becoming increasingly interested in submitting their work to The Joe for jury consideration.
Submissions came from Port St Joe, Wewahitchka, Apalachicola, Lynn Haven, Tallahassee, Aventura, and Inlet Beach, as well as Minnesota, Texas, Washington, California and North Carolina.
Juror Cindy Thau will award Best of Show, and first, second and third place cash awards during the reception. A People’s Choice award will be given when the show closes May 17.
Drawings will be held to win one of two fresh floral arrangements donated by Bayside Florist and the floral department of Duren’s Piggly Wiggly. Tickets for the drawings will be available for $1 each.
Phyllis Goff from the Port St. Joe Garden Club will present a program on Thursday, April 25 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at The Joe on “How to Enter a Flower Show” as a precursor to the garden club’s June 2024 flower show, which will be open to the public for entries.

The Joe is open Wednesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission to the reception is free and open to the public. Donations appreciated. The Joe Center for the Arts is a 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to educate, exhibit, partner, and inspire through the arts.
Meet the Editor
David Adlerstein, The Apalachicola Times’ digital editor, started with the news outlet in January 2002 as a reporter.
Prior to then, David Adlerstein began as a newspaperman with a small Boston weekly, after graduating magna cum laude from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. He later edited the weekly Bellville Times, and as business reporter for the daily Marion Star, both not far from his hometown of Columbus, Ohio.
In 1995, he moved to South Florida, and worked as a business reporter and editor of Medical Business newspaper. In Jan. 2002, he began with the Apalachicola Times, first as reporter and later as editor, and in Oct. 2020, also began editing the Port St. Joe Star.
