Wewa man dies in early morning crash

A 70-year-old Wewahitchka man was killed in an early morning accident when the pickup truck he was driving left the roadway and collided with a ditch.

According to a press release from the Florida Highway Patrol, at about 12:45 a.m., the truck was exiting a driveway at 6091 State Road 71, in Wewahitchka, near Bill Nelson Road when the crash happened.

The truck was headed east after exiting the driveway on the west shoulder onto State Road 71. Upon exiting, the truck traveled east across both the north and southbound travel lane and onto the east shoulder of SR 71.



After leaving the  roadway the truck collided with the ditch on the east shoulder of the road.

The man, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time, was rushed to Ascension Sacred Heart Gulf hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

Prior to then, David Adlerstein began as a newspaperman with a small Boston weekly, after graduating magna cum laude from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. He later edited the weekly Bellville Times, and as business reporter for the daily Marion Star, both not far from his hometown of Columbus, Ohio.

In 1995, he moved to South Florida, and worked as a business reporter and editor of Medical Business newspaper. In Jan. 2002, he began with the Apalachicola Times, first as reporter and later as editor, and in Oct. 2020, also began editing the Port St. Joe Star.
