GCSO investigating Wednesday shooting incident in Wewahitchka
Late yesterday evening, Sept. 13, at approximately 10:44 p.m. Central Time, Gulf County Sheriff’s Office Communications received a 911 call regarding a shooting incident at a residence in the 1100 block of State Road 71 South in Wewahitchka.
Once on scene, deputies began administering first aid to the victim who suffered a single gunshot wound. Gulf County EMS arrived and rushed the victim to the hospital.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, preliminary findings led investigators to believe the incident was accidental.
“There’s no evidence pointing to anything else at this time,” said a GCSO press representative. “There’s nothing that leads up to believe that it was any intentional act.”
The investigation is ongoing, and the victim remains hospitalized in serious condition.
