Wewahitchka man dies in County Road 381 accident
A 33 year-old Wewahitchka man was fatally injured in an accident that occurred on County Road 381 at 9:41 p.m. CDT on Friday, March 31.
According to a release from the Florida Highway Patrol, the accident occurred when the victim’s vehicle attempted to pass a second vehicle, driven by a 37 year-old Wewahitchka man, by crossing double yellow lines into the westbound lane of CR 381.
Upon returning to the eastbound lane, the right rear side of the victim’s vehicle collided with the front left side of the other vehicle, causing the victim’s vehicle to rotate clockwise and exit the roadway onto the south grass shoulder, where it began to overturn and eventually collided with a utility pole and several small trees. The driver, who had not been wearing a seatbelt, was fully ejected from the vehicle in the process.
According to the FHP, the victim’s next of kin has been notified.
No injuries were reported for the driver or passenger of the second vehicle.
