Day of Ball to take place this weekend

The 10th Street fields will have a flurry of baseball and softball activities on Saturday, March 4, as the Port St. Joe Dixie Youth leagues begin their seasons by observing the annual Day of Ball. 

Baseball’s “Day” will begin at 9:00 a.m., with games scheduled to follow the opening ceremonies. 

“We have 186 kids and 18 teams this year,” said board member Tim Petersen, “divided into the four divisions of T-Ball, AA, AAA, and Ozone.”

The baseball teams and players will yield to the Day of Softball at 3:00 p.m., said softball board president LaTonya “Chili” Bailey. 

Dixie Youth softball is divided into three divisions: Darlings (age 6-8), Angels (age 9-10), and Ponytails (11-12).
