Port St. Joe cheerleading is state bound
The Port St. Joe cheer competition team is state bound after their showing at the Region 1 meet at West Nassau High School in Callahan on Jan. 14.
Tiger Shark coach Stephanie Petersen said that “through hard work and strong commitments, this team came together to perform a strong routine” that allowed them to advance in the Small Co-Ed Varsity category.
“Our goal now is to take the judge’s recommendations, make a few changes, and create an even more powerful routine for the state finals,” said Petersen.
Members of the state-bound squad are: Taylor Campbell, Tristan Connell, Kingsley Hopper, Makayla Hopper, Bryleigh Jones, Dana Kelly, Hailyn Levins, Javana Pearson, Ava Petersen, Hannah Petersen, Leila Smith, Lia Taylor, Zoey TeVault, and Reagan Thomas.
The competitive cheerleading 1A finals will be held at Exactech Arena at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center in Gainesville on Friday, Feb. 3.

David Adlerstein, The Apalachicola Times’ digital editor, started with the news outlet in January 2002 as a reporter.
Prior to then, David Adlerstein began as a newspaperman with a small Boston weekly, after graduating magna cum laude from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. He later edited the weekly Bellville Times, and as business reporter for the daily Marion Star, both not far from his hometown of Columbus, Ohio.
In 1995, he moved to South Florida, and worked as a business reporter and editor of Medical Business newspaper. In Jan. 2002, he began with the Apalachicola Times, first as reporter and later as editor, and in Oct. 2020, also began editing the Port St. Joe Star.
