Wewa’s Gators pick up a victory on the road

The Wewahitchka High School football team scored a 24-6 road win over Vernon on September 9, improving the team’s record to 2-1.

On the opening play from scrimmage for the Gators, Caleb Carter took the direct snap, found a hole between the tackles, and with no one between him and the goal line, ran it to the end zone for the game’s first touchdown.

The Gators went for two and took a quick 8-0 lead over the Yellow Jackets.

In the second quarter, Vernon’s Dillon Storey hands off to Krishod Peterson at the Gators’ 20 yard line.

Peterson then runs the ball into the end zone, giving the Yellow Jackets their first and only touchdown of the game.

Vernon also tried to go for two, but came up unsuccessful, bringing the score at the end of the first half to 8-6.

With 16 unanswered points in the second half, Wewahitchka sailed to victory over the Yellow Jackets.

The Gators will now prepare for their game against the Trenton Tigers (0-3) on September 16 at home.
