Gulf County churches and organizations are hosting a variety of Easter services and events in the coming days.

Community Events

Junior Service League Easter Egg Hunt

The Junior Service League of Port St. Joe will be hosting their annual Easter egg hunt on Saturday, April 16 at 11 a.m. EST at Centennial Park.



Kids up to age 11 are welcome to participate free of charge. Children will be placed in groups based on age.

Wewa Woman’s Club Easter Cake Auction

The Wewahitchka Woman’s Club will be hosting their Easter Cake Auction from April 13 through April 15. For more information, visit the organization’s Facebook page.

 

Easter Sunrise Services

Lighthouse Pentecostal Ministries

The Lighthouse Pentecostal Ministries will be hosting a sunrise service on Easter Sunday beginning at 7:30 a.m. EST followed by their regular Sunday service at 10:30.

The services will be located at 5454 Highway 71 in Port St. Joe, near White City.

Philadelphia Primitive Baptist Church

The Philadelphia Primitive Baptist Church in Port St. Joe will be hosting a sunrise service on behalf of the Port St. Joe Ministerial Alliance on Easter Sunday at 6:30 a.m. EST.

The Church is located at 261 Avenue D in Port St. Joe.

Lake Alice Park in Wewahitchka

The Wewahitchka Ministerial Alliance will be hosting a 7 a.m. CST sunrise service on Easter Sunday at Lake Alice Park in Wewahitchka.

The service is open to all members of the community and visitors.

Cape San Blas Lighthouse morning service

The  First United Methodist Church of Port St. Joe will be hosting a special Easter service at the Cape San Blas Lighthouse, located in George Core Park, at 9 a.m. EST on Easter Sunday.

They invite the community to bring a lawn chair and join them.

They will also be hosting their normal 11 a.m. service in the church’s great hall.

St. James Episcopal Church morning service

The St. James Episcopal Church in Port St. Joe will be hosting a 9 a.m. service on Easter Sunday at Windmark Beach, followed by their regular 11 a.m. service in the church (located at 800 22nd Street).

 

Holy Week Services

Port St. Joe Ministerial Alliance

The Port St. Joe Ministerial Alliance will be hosting services nightly at 7:30 p.m. EST throughout the week.

The remaining services are as follows:

  • Tuesday, April 12 at Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church by  Reverend Kenneth Frame
  • Wednesday, April 13 at Zion Fair Missionary Baptist Church by Pastor Leon Leath
  • Thursday, April 14 at Thompson Temple First Born Holiness Church by Elder Marvin Davis
  • Friday, April 15 at Port St. Joe Church of God in Christ by Apostale David Woods.

First United Methodist Church of Port St. Joe

The First United Methodist Church of Port St. Joe will be hosting Holy Week services every day at noon through Friday, followed by lunch.

The remaining services and speakers are as follows:

  • Wednesday, April 13 by Pastor Chester Davis from Philadelphia Primitive Baptist Church
  • Thursday, April 14 by Leader Mike Harding from St. James Episcopal Church
  • Friday, April 15 by Reverend Dr. Boyd Evans from First Baptist Church.

 

Other Easter or Memorial Services

Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses

While Jehovah’s Witnesses do not celebrate Easter, the Kingdom Hall will be holding a memorial service marking Jesus’ sacrifice on Friday, April 15 at 7:30 p.m. EST.

The Kingdom Hall is located at 335 Selma Street in Port St. Joe.

Highland View Baptist Church

The Highland View Baptist Church will be hosting their Easter Sunday service at 10:30 a.m. EST at 310 Ling Street in Port St. Joe.

New Beginning Assembly of God

New Beginnings Assembly of God in Port St. Joe will be hosting their Easter service at 10:30, followed by an Easter egg hunt with candy prizes for the children.

Coffee and donuts will be available before the service. The church is located at 248 Dolphin Street.

Oak Grove Church

Oak Grove Church will be hosting their Ressurection Day service at 10:30 EST at their temporary location, the Faith Christian School, located at 801 Twentieth Street in Port St. Joe.

Glad Tidings Assembly of God

Glad Tidings Assembly of God in Wewahitchka will be holding their Easter Sunday service at 10:30 a.m. CST at 138 E Orange Avenue.

First Presbyterian Church

First Presbyterian Church in Wewahitchka will be hosting their Easter Sunday service at 11 a.m. in the church’s fellowship hall, located at 239 FL-71.

 



Meet the Editor

David Adlerstein, The Apalachicola Times’ digital editor, started with the news outlet in January 2002 as a reporter.

Prior to then, David Adlerstein began as a newspaperman with a small Boston weekly, after graduating magna cum laude from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. He later edited the weekly Bellville Times, and as business reporter for the daily Marion Star, both not far from his hometown of Columbus, Ohio.

In 1995, he moved to South Florida, and worked as a business reporter and editor of Medical Business newspaper. In Jan. 2002, he began with the Apalachicola Times, first as reporter and later as editor, and in Oct. 2020, also began editing the Port St. Joe Star.
